Galway
Home to some of the world's leaders in the fields of Electronics, Software and Medical Equipment, dynamic Galway is the administrative and commercial capital of the West of Ireland. Companies such as Compaq, Nortel, Boston Scientific and Medtronic have chosen Galway as a base.
45% of the population (84,000 people) is under the age of 25. Over 12,000 people are in full time education. The National University of Ireland Galway has over 10,000 students and provides a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The Galway Institute of Technology has over 4,000 full time students.
Galway Airport operates several daily flights to Dublin. Shannon International Airport is just over an hours drive from Galway and offers daily direct flights to the UK and Europe. Knock International Airport to the north is less than one hour from Galway. Irish Rail operates five passenger trains daily from Galway to Dublin together with a daily freight service. Excellent road links will be further enhanced by the National Development Plan, which provides for the significant upgrading of the Galway to Dublin and Galway to Limerick routes by 2006.
